Coach's comments: "Although last Wednesday's cancellations pushed back our season opener until the weekend, the Wild Boars JV players showed they are an eager and capable bunch as they dispatched a pair of Founders League rivals in the course of a Saturday afternoon. We were able to get all fourteen on the JV roster at least one match and a good number of the thirds squad saw action, too, since the Avon and Loomis teams were both willing to play a second round of matches. My colleague Andrew Murgio pinch hit as host coach while I was away in Georgia with cross country runners for the Junior Olympics National Championships and his charges shut out the Winged Beavers squad that he had coached just a year before! We'll have to be on our toes for the next match, as we take on a strong Brunswick team down in Greenwich; the Bruins were the only squad to defeat the Choate JV last year."

Coach's comments: "The good news is that Brunswick was able to produce enough bodies to square off against all fourteen Choate JV players. The bad news is that the hosts won all but two of those matches. That said, the seven scoring matches up top were generally quite competitive, as the results above indicate, so this didn't feel like a true blowout. Deeper in the roster, the experience gap showed, however, since even the younger Brunswick players have logged far more hours on court than most of our guys. Congratulations to Messrs. Coclanis and Depman for salvaging some pride for the Wild Boars.
"This match was a good wake-up call for us and reminds us that there is much work yet to do in the New Year. We'll look forward to another shot at Brunswick on our own courts come February and we'll do our best to turn the tables then."

Coach's comments: "The Saints brought 18 bodies to play Choate's JV and thirds squads and a handful of them were willing to play twice, which meant we squeezed in a lot of matches today. Players from both schools were a bit rusty after the holiday vacation, but we were pleased to pull out the win."

Coach's comments: "This was a satisfying win over an always competitive opponent. Taft was good enough to provide a match for each of our boys and we managed to take eleven of the fourteen matches played (although the margin of victory among the scoring seven was thinner than what we had hoped for). As always when Choate and Taft play in boys' squash, the spirit of the competition was friendly and generous throughout the ranks. The team outcome was established early, as we went up 4-1 in the first batch of matches completed. With the team victory in hand, we dropped a pair matches with some sloppy play at #4 and #7, but in each case the Rhino opponent's scrappiness played a major role in our guys' inability to summon their best squash. Most of the Choate players executed quite well. We'll see Taft at home later this winter for a rematch and we will need to be sharp, as they'll be eager to reverse this outcome."

Coach's comments: "Our visit to the Emerald City was an altogether pleasant affair: the matches were competitive, the hospitality inviting, and the sportsmanship impeccable. The top of our ladder nailed down the victory with some savvy squash against very competent opponents. The top six tilts were played on three international courts, and so our boys felt right at home. But the remaining matches were contested on the Academy's five North American courts and--as the scores above indicate--the visitors had difficulty adapting to the different dimensions of the court and making the requisite shifts in strategy. That said, Ned Lanphier and our third form contingent pulled out a handful of impressive four- and five-game wins on the narrow courts. Angelo Coclanis suffered the first loss of his young Choate Squash career, squandering a 7-0 advantage in the fifth game after rebounding from a 0-2 deficit in games. In all, it was a good outing for the squad."

Coach's comments: "Not having played a dual match in ten days, our boys demonstrated that they had benefited from tournament competition last weekend and from a week of intensive work on front court shots. The Williston varsity squad we hosted was composed of veterans who had improved noticeably in a year's time. Thus the contest turned out to be a very competitive affair, with most of the matches extending beyond three games. As a team, we are making good progress and we look forward to our match in Pawling next Wednesday, as T-P will have opponents for all fourteen players on our roster."

Coach's comments: "It was the proverbial 'good day at the office' for the Wild Boars JV as we traveled into the Empire State for this lopsided win over Trinity-Pawling. Among the highlights of the afternoon: Angelo Coclanis rebounded from a 0-2 deficit to win his match and Eliot Jia made an impressive debut in his first JV outing. We head into Long Weekend ready for some much-needed rest, but aware that an eager Taft team will be looking for revenge in a rematch next week."

Coach's comments: "Under normal circumstances, we knew we could expect Taft to be hungry to avenge its January loss to Choate. But without our #1 and #2 JV players available, we certainly had our work cut out for us. The Wild Boars stepped it up nicely to get the job done, in spite of being short-handed. Quick wins at #7, #6, and #4 gave us an early 3-1 lead in the team scoring and birthday boy Yuhwon Lee put the home team over the top with a lopsided victory over an opponent he had lost to in five games last time around. The match of the day was a barnburner at #5, wherein Ned Lanphier and his opponent hurled themselves around the court, taking the contest to the limit, 10-9 in the fifth; it was a thrilling spectacle."

Coach's comments: "Our squad journeyed over hill and dale to Connecticut's northwestern corner to play a match in the brand new athletic center on the Hotchkiss campus. Though we were missing a few from our roster--we loaned most of our third form contingent to the thirds team for the day and two other starters were unavailable--Choate quickly jumped to a 4-0 lead to secure the team victory before a few of our players got a bit sloppy. Though we unfortunately dropped a pair of matches in which we led two games to none, two other Wild Boars rallied from behind to win: Eliot Reitz played some of his best squash of the year in rebounding from a 0-2 deficit and Angelo Coclanis saved three match points en route to clinching his fifth game by a 10-8 score. Special pats on the back to Mac Bartels, Abe Chiang, Yuhwon Lee, and Charles Depman for dispatching their opponents in straight games."

Coach's comments: "In a satisfying conclusion to a very strong season, the Wild Boars shut out archrival Deerfield, dropping only two individual games along the way. Angelo Coclanis avenged his only loss of the season with a lopsided win over a Big Green player and Yuhwon Lee crawled out of a sick bed to uphold the school's honor in a 3-0 dismantling of his opponent."
